Once again PeTA get veganism onto the national news agenda.

I'm not sure equating vegans with porn stars is a good thing , but it's perfect fodder for the Daily Mail readers who love a good rant and will no doubt spend the day starting up conversations about veganism all over the place. You never know their rant may be countered with "Actually my nephew is a vegan body builder and he has muscles in places you can only dream of fat bloke!" .

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when The Daily Mail reader starts with "I eat meat and cheese and it's never done me any harm" - to be met with the reply "Oh really Bill, so what are those pills you take? are they for your high blood pressure or your heart disease, are you not worried about a stroke?"

"Real men eat meat!"

" You mean real men like beef eating American footballers who have the lowest life expectancy of any popular American profession? or real men like President Bill Clinton who used to eat meat, got heart disease and now eat vegan plantarian food to get well?"




No one seems to want to talk about the health benefits and the environment, the world seems obscessed with sex, porn, teenage girls, videos.

Everytime PeTA show a nearly naked PeTA employee or a nude celebrity PeTA patron stripping off naked to reveal their breasts and bottom PeTA get headlines.

It matters not that people like PeTA or not, it matters that PeTA's cause is on the news agenda. Peta also argue a link between animal abusers and violent people abusers and committing domestic abuse which would be a logical response to criticism of this safer sex campaign.

I'm sure Peta would much prefer it if all they had to do was present scientific facts to get healthy eating on the agenda.

But how many headlines do PCRM or the Cancer Project grab compared with PeTA? - you can empathise with why PeTA do what they do.

So should we thank The Daily Mail's editor for running this story?

It sounds like the Editor of The Daily Mail Paul Dacre needs to follow in Bill Clinton 's plantarian vegan footsteps, if he hasn't already - The Observer reports "The relentless nature of the job takes its toll (on the Daily Mail editor) and there has been intense speculation about Dacre's health. Meat Free Mondays Support Meat Free Monday – Eat less meat for a better planet Actually it's more of a relaunch as Sir Paul McCartney has been suggesting that Meat Free Monday was a good idea since he read the UN report Livestock's Long Shadow.

As people are struggling to work it out for themselves he's clearly decided it would take a little more effort. Today 15th June Meat Free Mondays launches with a big article in the independent and a new website.

The Independent reveals - 'The McCartneys have attracted support from across the worlds of showbusiness, science, business and the environment. The singer Chris Martin, Hollywood stars Kevin Spacey and Woody Harrelson, actress Joanna Lumley and Sir Richard Branson are advocating meat-free Mondays.

Support has also come from comedians Ricky Gervais, David Walliams and Matt Lucas, the poet Benjamin Zephaniah and Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman.

Another supporter, Sir David King, the Government's former chief scientist, said: "The carbon and water footprints associated with producing beef are about 20 times larger than maize production. Eating less meat will help the environment."'

Paul McCartney and his team have suceeded where the rest of us have failed and pulled in over 40 celebrities for a lunchtime media event at Inn the Park in St James's Park today

Lady Heather Mills-McCartney probably back to Heather Mills now she is divorced plans to open a vegetarian seaside cafe in Brighton - well the next town on - Hove.

Animal Rights campaigner and strict Vegan, Heather 41 has taken over the Big Fish café in Hove, East Sussex.

Heather Mills used to eat there with Paul McCartney and their daughter Beatrice before the couple's divorce. "They'd have veggie breakfasts and soya milk tea," says the previous owner of the big fish café Nick Short. "Heather said she'd like to buy the place if it came on the market."

The sale went through with Heather Mills on Friday for £140,000 – £115,000 less than the original pre recession price of £255,000 Heather had allegedly originally verbally agreed to pay for the business.

Heather apparently plans to renovate the property and turn it into 100% vegan cafe restaurant removing all meat fish and other animal products from the menu.

It's thought Heather Mills and her daughter Beatrice may pop into the Brighton Vegan Fayre in The Brighton Centre on Saturday 21st March to get ideas for her new menu. There will be a big emphasis on healthy food at The Brighton Vegan Food and something for everyone with a cowboy style fast food bar, Vegan pirate salads and smoothies and a gourmet Penthouse restaurant in the Skyline with impressive views out to sea. Surprises such as vegan fish and chips , vegan steak salad, Vegan Sausage and Mash as well as some delicious traditional style fresh vegetable, nut and bean dishes will open people's eyes to the full potential of a healthy, sustainable, ethical vegan lifestyle.

On Donny Osmond’s new TV game show on BBC 2, Identity, guessing the vegan identity proves to be one of the toughest identities of the whole TV series.

70’s Pop icon Donny Osmond hosts the new TV show Identity – the ultimate TV mind-game on weekday afternoons on BBC Two.

Already a massive hit in the US, Identity is an intense game of impulse and reasoning. It stretches the contestants' powers of judgement, perception and instinct as they attempt to match 12 complete strangers with their secret identities. The more strangers they identify, the more cash they win.

The Identity contestant has to use all their powers of deduction and perception to work out who is who – from the first Bond girl to the world’s strongest man or the GP to the glamour model. If they can match all 12 strangers to their identities, they can walk away with a cash jackpot of £10,000.

In one of the shows one of the strangers is a vegan and trying to identify their vegan identity proves to be one of the hardest shows of the Identity TV series.

Just what does a typical vegan look like? These days it’s hard to tell, the old stereotypes painted by the media of skinny, bearded, smelly left wing hippies are long gone. There was recently a two page feature in the Daily Mail detailing the diary of one of their journalists who went vegan for a month and cut his cholesterol levels by nearly 25%. With the realisation that a vegan diet and lifestyle can be a recipe that’s kinder to the environment, kinder to health and of course kinder to animals, people from all walks of life and all age groups are becoming vegan.

How can you tell a vegan from the average stranger? By the clothes they wear? “Not any longer” says a spokesperson from www.supervegan.org “Fake furs are now better than the real thing, Italian suits can be made in linen and fine spun organic cotton or even hemp.” By their shoes? Not any more, apparently companies such as Beyond Skin and Stella McCartney have haute couture for even the most ethically minded. By their physique? “Not all vegans are super healthy,” say the super-vegans “most vegans adopt a vegan lifestyle for ethical reasons rather than health benefits, however many vegans still manage to look much younger than they actually are.”

So who is the vegan stranger on Donny Osmond’s new TV show. Is it a he or a she? Is he or she old or young? Fat or thin? Old or young? You’ll have to watch to find out, this could prove to be one of the hardest mind games on TV ever –.
