Beef Industry retaliate on Meat Free Mondays

Vegan and Vegetarian News Twonk of the week award goes to

UC Davis News & Information :: Don’t Blame Cows for Climate Change: "Mitloehner said. 'Producing less meat and milk will only mean more hunger in poor countries.'"

What? on the basis that if we stop producing so much, fuelled by massive govt subsidies , we'll have less to throw away and then companies will have less waste product to then take advantage of more grants to turn it into food that can be shipped off to Africa's starving.

Who funded this twaddle?

"Clearing the Air" is a synthesis of research by the UC Davis authors and many other institutions, including the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture, California Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board. Writing the synthesis was supported by a $26,000 research grant from the Beef Checkoff Program, which funds research and other activities, including promotion and consumer education, through fees on beef producers in the U.S.

Oh I see

"The developed world's efforts should focus not on reducing meat and milk consumption," said Mitloehner, "but rather on increasing efficient meat production in developing countries, where growing populations need more nutritious food." he witters on

Or we could just cut out the middle man and grow and eat more nutritious plant based foods and exporting less McDonald's , milkshakes and essential nutrient free Dunkin Dough Nuts. That would also save electricity, water and the rain forests!

Every respectable health promotions authority in the world now recognises a formula of less saturated animal fat and more fruit and vegetables is the best route to reduce epidemics of chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Finally will someone please ask Twonk brain what he thinks his factory farmed efficient cows will eat? Yes! not factored that into your convenient Beef industry sponsored equation have you?

It looks like they just pulled their statistics out their netherregions... because it has been acknowledged since the 70s that the factory farming industry is a higher contributer to global warming than all forms of transportation combined. It is so easy for educational institutions (funded by the meat industry) to falsify and twist information. Just plain sick. I was so disappointed that the entire discussion at COP15 seemed completely devoid of any mention of veganism.

The meat industry says they feed people but they really just rape the planet and starve people - ironic.
