Top 10 Vegan CookBooks- Bestsellers

Top 10 Vegan CookBooks: It's incredible that a vegan cookbook has made it into the amazon.com best sellers list, something no one would have thought possible a few years ago, in fact a few weeks ago.

No doubt it's a lot, nay, all to do with Forbes no. 1 celebrity Oprah Winfrey, as it was Oprah that featured Kathy Freston's book, the Veganist on her show, and on the Oprah website, and got 378 of her staff to follow the book's advice for a week.

The American Vegan Cookbooks dominate sales of vegan recipe books, (especially ones about cupcakes) even on amazon.co.uk you won't see a British vegan cookbook tackling vegan diets until number 6 on the 'Vegan cookbooks' listings.

Its a good book too even if I do say so myself, so many of the books don't have pictures and us cooks like pictures. The Complete Book of Vegan Cooking is full of them, but is currently down to rank number 41 in the Vegetarian and vegan section, despite selling out and having to be reprinted within 6 months of it's publication.

Still, having a vegan cookbook in the bestsellers list bodes very well for the Plantarian 2011 One World Day.

Vegan Book Sold Out in 5 Months

Amazon.co.uk: vegan: Books

The Complete Book of Vegan Cooking by Yvonne & Tony Bishop-Weston crashes into the top 2o on Amazon's best selling Vegan Book list. "So what?" I hear you say well....... that's no mean feat for a vegan recipe cookbook that is the only hardback full colour book in the in the list and it's consequently 3 times the price of most of the other vegan books in the list too. (most of the others are £3-£5)

The first edition of The Complete Book of Vegan Cooking is already out of print in the UK so if you are not quick you may have to order the recipe book from the USA on Amazon.com . Still advertised on WH Smith at £11.04 with free postage on orders over £15 or delivered to your nearest store. Signed copies available at optimum nutritionists .com @ RRP

The recipe book is currently being reprinted and new copies available in time for National Vegetarian Week.

A sell out in just 5 months on Amazon is not bad at all - clearly the world is waking up to a vegan diet as a solution for health and environmental issues.

Top 10 Food Trends for 2010

Nation's Restaurant News

top 10 food trends for 2010

Top 10 / top 20 food trends for 2010 - The NRN are, it's safe to say, fairly conservative, (their politics have been likened to a little right of the NRA) as you'd expect for a magazine whose readership are chefs who routinely think up new ways to kill animals and make dead rotting flesh taste nice.

The cliche of Chefs' animosity to vegetarians is perpetuated by chefs such as Gordon Ramsay - the only thing he says he hates more than vegans is traffic wardens.

So a good sign indeed that the National Restaurant News, NRN , one letter away from NRA, and their survey of chefs has come out with these encouraging results in their top 20 food trends for 2010 for the ethical environmentalists amongst us.

Exciting times ahead surely , good news for Vegetarian Visitor the UK Restaurant and accommodation guide and perfect timing for The Vegetarian Society's new campaign V Healthy that features leading London Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston's 7 ways to health

Note 11: Purslane is not a fruit but a succulent herb a bit like a cross between cactus and watercress that has huge amounts of omega 3 essential fats - Chefs obviously still have some way to go but really exciting it's on their radar.
