Party Party: Vegan Diamond Jubilee 75 Years of Veganism

The whole world has been caught up in a whirlwind of veganism with delicious vegan food literally on every street corner, even seemingly "Carry on vegans, nothing to see here" traditional Dingly Dongly ice cream vans. In fact the other day I asked for the vegan option (jokingly) and he asked "Which one?"

2019 is year of the vegan, a Diamond Jubilee Vegan year. It's 75 years since the word vegan was first officially used and The Vegan Society was founded. If that doesn't call for a party, or should I say parties  - all over the world, then I really don't know what you are all waiting for.

75 years since Vegan was born - Diamond Jubilee 2019

For the first time since I can remember National Vegetarian Week just completely managed to pass me by unnoticed this year. There just doesn't seem much point anymore. Just going vegetarian doesn't stop animal cruelty, doesn't sort climate change and doesn't hugely impact on health if you just swap meat with cheese. No wonder the Vegetarian Society Approved quality assurance and labelling scheme now offers a vegan version.

Although my vegan sandwich, finalist in the British Sandwich Awards , wasn't the overall winner, Marks & Spencers, Greggs the bakers and Crussh all won awards for their new vegan products. and many others got a mention. I feel my job there is done, I can't think of anywhere there is no vegan sandwich option now, even our local gym. Nearly everywhere has at least a fallafel/hummus/chick pea offer and most have something more exciting leaving all the Pret vegan hallabaloo as all very last year.

A Star is Bun, Vegan Christmas Dinner Star Bun - Finalist
Anyway, get organising, have a party, organise an event, vote for your favourite new vegan things, let's celebrate 75 years of veganism, especially the last few years

Happy 30th Birthday Vegan Society NSW

Submission to a National Food Plan - Vegan Society NSW

30 years of promoting compassion in NSW

This weekend The Vegan Society of NSW will celebrate 30 years of spreading the vegan message of animal rights, compassion, sustainability and health to Sydney and the State.
In our 30th year of the Vegan Society, we have achieved a lot. We’ve held six highly successful vegan expos. We have so many enthusiastic and committed members. It’s been a real pleasure to witness the society growing over all these years,” said Greg Mc Farlane, President of the NSW Vegan Society.
The Vegan Society of NSW is of interest to people who care about animal rights, human health and the environment. Vegans refrain from using all animal products such as meat, dairy, eggs, leather and wool. They reject all forms of exploitation of animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
Australians deserve to be educated about the many benefits of plant-based diets and supported by government. Until this happens, people can count on the Vegan Society to provide this much needed education and information. We welcome everyone.”
Since Myer Samra and Bill Westerman formed the society in 1981, its many volunteers, presidents and committee members have continued to grow the society to become what it is today – a community of informed and compassionate citizens determined as ever to showcase, promote and celebrate the many benefits of the vegan lifestyle.
The strength of the society is its membership. Many hundreds of people have now benefited from joining the society. The society provides advice and support to help with the transition to a vegan diet. For committed vegans, the society provides social support, activities, and opportunities to be involved in vegan outreach.
Members receive a quarterly newsletter, a free subscription to Living Vegan magazine, vegan shopping discounts as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of social outings, events and festivals.

International Flavours of Vegan Food

Verdant Reports from Bill - Bill gets everywhere
Verdant Reports

'No-Kill Bill' the Peripatetic Vegan travels around the world so you don't have to - although of course like me you may want to even more once you listen to his reports of his delicious adventures.

Thwarted by the authorities for his report on The Big Green Gathering he makes up for lost time with reports from Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia.

This is like a Vegan BBC World Service - awesome - Radio 4 will soon be overshadowed by this mysterious caped crusader, the Clark Kent of the digital airwaves.
